Who is Red John?

Theories of Red Exit (2)

In the spoiler TV guide article, Simon Baker states that RJ wants a relationship with Jane so much that he ends up tipping his hat. ? Season 4 finale shows this when RJ wants Patrick to turn to the dark side. Out of the 6, assuming Partridge isn't dead, which character would want to be around Jane?

- Bertram: close and frequent contact with Jane. Possible faked bad poker playing to have a game with him.

- Partridge: wonders why Jane doesn't like him, seems to yearn for his acceptance.

- McAllister: paper/rock/scissor, great playful banter between the two, mental one-upsmanship, saves his life....twice? :-)

I don't believe Smith displays any of these qualities, and I believe Haffnerseems genuinely angry and contemptful towards Jane.

So, with that in mind, and taking the tattoo and promo at its word, it's either Bertram or McAllister. I think Bertram is written the best and has so much back material that would make researching the series enjoyable. On the other hand, the Sheriff IMO has golden moments with Jane that are creepy, funny and full of gravitas.

I'd be extremely happy with either!

Many claim that McAllister is too old, but...

He is said to be 45 years old in his S01E02 appearance, which makes him approximately 50 years old now in 2013. The young Red John was at the Elliston Farm in 1988, which would make the Sheriff 25 years old at the time. Nick Nordella is playing a "young man" in episodes 7 & 8, which many think is the young Red John. Nordella is currently 25 years old....

I can see a scenario where Stiles shepherded a young McAllister to focus and rehab a troubled man. He ended up turning a dull knife into a scalpel. This is why he helps Patrick somewhat, he feels partly responsible for his family's murders.

Of course Stiles could be RJ himself. I've just enjoyed the whole storyline. My first choice was Bertram over the past years, but I'm gonna stick with the two best and most entertaining actors' characters:

Stiles and/or McAllister
